Imagine Never Forgetting Your Medical Story
Have you ever spoken with a family member, friend, or even a stranger about a recent medical event, only to hear them say, “I have no idea what they did”?
As a physician, I hear this far too often from my own patients. Confusion about medical conditions, medications, and even major surgeries is all too common. This is especially true for elderly patients, who often rely on caregivers to share information — caregivers who may live hundreds or even thousands of miles away.
After carefully gathering a patient’s history during a visit, I often spend just as much time afterward documenting the encounter in detail.
One day I thought: “Wouldn’t it be great if my note was written for me the moment I finished the visit?”
That thought struck me last November during a rare dinner date with my wife, Jennifer.
“Yes!” she replied. “I never really understand what the doctors are asking about. I don’t know what they did — it all sounds like gibberish to me.”
Jennifer has been by my side for over 12 years through residency, fellowship, and now practice, yet even she finds medical conversations confusing. Her words crystallized an idea I had been carrying: there had to be a better way.
That night inspired me to begin developing Scribe Mutual.
The Vision Behind Scribe Mutual
I envision Scribe Mutual as an assistant that listens, transcribes, and generates detailed medical notes — both in the office and hospital — in near real time. The application will extract relevant information and automatically update the patient’s chart, building a clear and comprehensive picture of their health with each visit.
For physicians, this means less time typing and more time present with patients — truly listening, connecting, and caring.
For patients, Scribe Mutual is designed to offer a secure, user-friendly portal that provides instant access to their medical records as soon as the provider finalizes them. Patients can then save, share, and review their records with family members or other specialists with ease. Optional linking of family members can even help automatically build family medical histories, offering valuable insights into genetic risks and health patterns.
A Shared Goal
Imagine one intelligent assistant seamlessly connecting doctors and patients. Imagine communication that flows freely, helping both sides achieve the same outcome: better care, stronger understanding, and a healthier tomorrow.
That is the future Scribe Mutual is working to create.
